Every visit to Puerto Rico deepens our connection to the island we call home. We travel there at least twice a year, and the moment we unpack our bags and step onto the balcony overlooking the ocean, a sense of peace washes over us. For us, home is Puerto Rico—more specifically, near a seaside village of open-air restaurants called Piñones.

Picture this: the smell of charcoal-grilled pinchos (shish kebabs), ribs, and chicken fills the air. A salty ocean breeze drifts in. The atmosphere buzzes with Spanish chatter, bursts of laughter, and the rhythm of salsa, bachata, merengue—and sometimes even English songs. Each tune brings a wave of joy and a desire to dance.

And nothing pairs better with this vibrant energy than the food—dishes made with love by local vendors. From grabbing a quick alcapurria or empanada while waiting for the main course, to savoring pinchos during a beachside sunset, every bite feels like home.
